Detail -- Underfloor heating
Engineered wood with underfloor heating.
Vermont compatible to 29°C surface temperature; Winderen to 27°C. Engineered construction tolerates the seasonal RH cycle of UFH-served interiors that solid oak parquet cannot. FSC + PEFC chain-of-custody, BREEAM Mat 03 documentation per project.

35 Grosvenor Street -- Vermont American Walnut over UFH.
Studio KKD specified Vermont in American Walnut across the workplace fit-out at 35 Grosvenor Street. The hybrid wood-powder construction supports UFH at 29°C surface temperature across the open floor.

Engineered wood + UFH in projects.
"Solid oak parquet struggles at modern UFH flow temperatures. Engineered Winderen tolerates the seasonal RH range. Engineered Vermont with the wood-powder layer goes 2°C higher again."
UFH detail
How engineered wood performs over UFH.
29°C surface
Hybrid wood-powder construction extends UFH compatibility to 29°C. The structural wood-powder layer + HDF core resist the heating cycle.
27°C surface
Standard UFH-compatibility for engineered oak with thinner top layer. Multi-species substrate balances the seasonal movement.
30-60% RH
Both ranges tolerate the seasonal RH cycle of UFH-served interiors. Solid oak parquet at the same flow temperature splits within 12 months.
Glue-down
Fully adhered (glue-down) install over UFH-served substrate. 7-10 day moisture-test window before glue-down.
2-6mm
real oak top layer
~40% less real timber per m² versus solid oak parquet. The substrate handles structural load; the top layer delivers visual + sand/refinish life.

29°C
UFH surface temp
UFH-compatible to 29°C surface across Vermont, 27°C across Winderen. Engineered construction tolerates seasonal RH movement.

Specifying engineered oak over underfloor heating
A stable multi-ply engineered core is what makes engineered oak well suited to underfloor heating, where solid boards would move; glue-down is usually recommended for the best thermal contact. Choose the right board with our guides to choosing engineered wood, oak flooring grades and wide-plank engineered oak, or compare the range in our best engineered wood flooring guide. For spec evidence see flooring for architects, and browse the Winderen collection.
Frequently asked questions
Is engineered wood suitable for underfloor heating? Yes. A stable multi-ply core makes engineered wood well suited to underfloor heating; glue-down installation gives the best thermal contact.
What wear layer is best for underfloor heating? A real-wood wear layer around 3mm or more allows refinishing; total board thickness and a stable core matter most for performance over heat.
