Cork flooring, hospitality sector

Cork flooring for hospitality projects.
Hotels, restaurants, bars, spas, golf clubs, wellness floors and members’ clubs. Cork brings acoustic moderation, warmth underfoot, biophilic texture and a carbon-negative material credential to hospitality interiors, and with the waterproof Classic Cork waterproof construction, now to the wet-area zones it used to lose to vinyl.
Why cork is showing up in hospitality briefs again.
Hospitality interiors carry a unique set of competing constraints. The floor has to be quiet underfoot in a building type defined by guest experience; it has to handle hospitality wear (heels, dropped glassware, mop-water, service traffic) at Class 33 commercial intensity; it has to read as a material choice rather than as an industrial decision; and increasingly it has to land sustainability targets on the operator’s ESG submission. Cork is one of the few materials that meets all four at once.
The waterproof advancement changes the conversation. Cork is now a credible specification for spa wet floors, restaurant front-of-house with kitchen splash zones, bar service areas, hotel bathrooms and any application where service water is routine. The material itself is unchanged, acoustic, thermal and biophilic properties intact, but the moisture envelope is closed.
Where cork wins in hospitality.

Hotel and spa floors
Cork through wellness suites, reception, treatment-room circulation, changing rooms, thermal-suite surrounds. The acoustic damping suits the calming brief of a spa interior; the waterproof construction takes the bare feet, the splash and the humidity. Balmoral Spa’s Do Design wellness floor is the recent UK reference.
Restaurants and bars
Front-of-house cork through dining and service zones; with waterproof construction, now also into bar service runs and kitchen-facing thresholds. Acoustic damping moderates the room volume of a busy service. Pomus in Margate is a coastal-restaurant example using cork for the same reasons.

Members’ clubs and golf clubhouses
Cork through clubhouse interiors, entrance circulation, bar areas, member lounges. Selsdon Park Golf Club uses Cork Styles Personality Champagne in this context: hospitality wear, design-led aesthetic, sustainability credentials.
Hotel guest rooms and bathrooms
With waterproof cork, the en-suite bathroom is now a defensible cork specification, warm underfoot in a way porcelain isn’t, quieter than tile, distinctive in a category dominated by LVT and ceramic. Hotel operators looking to differentiate the room product on material choice should look here first.
The hospitality documentation pack.
Every specifier hospitality quote routes the BREEAM documentation (Mat 03, Hea 05 acoustic data) plus operator-relevant evidence: PTV slip data (BS 7976), Bfl-s1 fire rating, Class 33 commercial durability rating, EPD-verified embodied carbon at -101 kg CO2e/m2 net, FSC/PEFC chain of custody, and life-cycle data appropriate for operator ESG submissions.
Hospitality FAQ.
Can cork really handle hospitality traffic?
Yes. Class 33 commercial rating under EN 685 covers heavy commercial use including hospitality. The cellular structure recovers from heel impact and dropped items better than vinyl or LVT.
Is cork suitable for spa wet floors?
Yes, with the Classic Cork construction waterproof construction. We supply cork into spa wet-zone briefs as standard. The Balmoral Spa wellness floor by Do Design is a current UK reference.
Will cork hold up against red wine, oil and coffee spills?
Yes, when promptly wiped. The factory-sealed surface tolerates routine spills. Set-in stains can be lifted with localised refinish at the 15-20 year mark.
How does cork compare to LVT in restaurants?
Cork lasts 2-3x longer than LVT and reads as a sustainable material choice on operator ESG submissions. LVT is cheaper at install but loses on lifecycle cost and material credibility.
Can cork be specified for hotel guest rooms?
Yes, acoustic damping between rooms, thermal warmth underfoot, biophilic texture. With waterproof construction, also credible in the en-suite.
Does cork meet BREEAM Hospitality requirements?
Yes. BREEAM Mat 03 documentation routes through every specifier quote, including FSC/PEFC and EPD-verified embodied carbon.
