Featured project

Stirrups Hotel, Bracknell -- Winderen herringbone Pisa.

Studio ROWE specified Winderen herringbone Pisa across the restaurant, bar and reception of Stirrups Hotel -- a single material running through the full ground floor public spaces. The herringbone reads as period gesture but performs as modern engineered: 2-6mm European oak top layer, FSC certified, UFH-compatible, low cradle-to-gate carbon.

Continuous floor specification across multiple zones reduces transition detail risk and reads as a confident interior decision -- the floor doesn't shout.

"Hospitality floors are the hardest-working in the building. They handle rolling stock, spilled drinks, every guest's first impression and post-occupancy noise complaints. The floor decision sits underneath the rest of the design."

Why these materials, in hospitality

Cork and engineered oak, by application.

Slip

R10 / PTV 36+ on request

Cork delivers R9 (DIN 51130), PTV 36+ on request -- BS 5395 compliant for stairs, bar and dining floor. Survives spilled drinks, food service traffic and front-of-house wear.

Acoustic

IIC 71-73

Cork's closed-cell structure absorbs impact noise. Materially reduces footfall transmission across multi-storey hotel and restaurant interiors compared to LVT.

Visual

Herringbone / plank

Engineered oak in herringbone reads as period gesture and performs as modern engineered. Plank for cleaner contemporary interiors and brand-defined chain rollouts.

Compliance

BREEAM + FSC

Mat 03 Exemplary on cork; FSC certified Winderen oak; PEFC + Eco Institut M1 on Vermont. Documentation supplied per project.

-101

kg CO&sub2;e/m² net

Carbon negative once balanced with carbon sequestration. The cork tree absorbs more CO&sub2; across its 9-year regenerative growth cycle than is emitted in cradle-to-gate manufacture. Net-negative GWP per the EPD.

Class B

fire rating standard

Bfl-s1 per EN 13501-1 across the range. Specified into commercial floors without additional fire treatment.

Zero

PVC in construction

No PVC. Cork plank + cork core + cork backing + UV-cured polyurethane wear-layer. Specified into WELL, healthcare and SKA fit-outs that exclude vinyl.

Adjacent sector -- retail

Asics, Tokyo flagship -- Classic Cork.

Hospitality and retail share floor briefs: high-traffic, brand-aware, acoustic-conscious. Asics specified Classic Cork in Original Shell across the Tokyo flagship -- the same material story you'd find in a London restaurant interior, scaled to flagship retail.

Cork as a brand material reads internationally because it doesn't try too hard.
