Cork flooring, residential supply
Cork flooring for residential and architect-residential projects.
Cork is the residential floor that quietly does what no other material does well at the same time: warm, acoustically deadening, biophilic, carbon-negative, and, with the Classic Cork waterproof construction, now waterproof in bathrooms, kitchens and wet rooms. The Floor Gallery supplies cork for high-end homes, architect-residential briefs, listed conversions and design-led renovations across the UK.
Quadrant, the UK’s other cork specialist, is commercial-only. They do not pitch for residential. The residential cork market is genuinely uncontested by the obvious competitor. This page exists to be the canonical specifier resource for cork in homes.
Why cork wins in a home.
The brief on a high-end residential floor is almost always a triangulation of acoustic, thermal, aesthetic and sustainability priorities. Engineered oak is the safe default. LVT and vinyl are the budget compromise. Cork is the floor that solves multiple priorities at once: warmer underfoot than wood, quieter than tile, carbon-negative on the embodied-carbon line, biophilic in texture, and, now, waterproof where the room demands it. The trade-off used to be that cork ruled itself out of bathrooms and kitchens. That trade-off is closed.
Where cork fits, room by room.
Living spaces, bedrooms, studies
Cork’s historic strongholds. Warm, quiet, comfortable underfoot. Classic Cork (7mm) and Cork Styles (11mm) both ship in plank formats. The Original Shell finish in Cork Styles is the design-led texture for living spaces that want cork to be visibly the point.
Kitchens
Waterproof cork holds against spills and splash. Visible give underfoot reduces fatigue during long cooking sessions. Acoustic damping cuts the noise of food prep and dishwashing. Compared to tile, cork is warmer to stand on, kinder on dropped glassware, and quieter.
Bathrooms and en-suites
The pre-Classic Cork objection, cork doesn’t do moisture, is gone. Waterproof cork in a bathroom is warmer underfoot than porcelain, acoustically gentler, and visually distinct from the tile-and-vinyl default.
Utility, boot rooms, larders
Wet boots, dog water, washing machine overflow risk. Waterproof cork takes it all and stays sustainable.
Hallways and stairs
Cork’s acoustic performance makes a measurable difference in homes with hard-surfaced principal rooms. Stairs in cork take the impact of foot traffic without the noise transfer.
Architect-residential briefs.
The Floor Gallery works with architect practices specifying for private clients on schemes that need a flooring story integrated with sustainability targets, acoustic performance and biophilic design language. Recent specifier work spans London townhouses, Surrey country residences, Cotswolds estates and design-led apartments. The cork range pairs naturally with our engineered oak (Winderen, Vermont) for projects that want both materials from one supplier.
Residential FAQ.
Is cork really waterproof in a bathroom?
Yes. Classic Cork construction is a 100% waterproof cork plank construction. The Floor Gallery supplies it for residential bathrooms, en-suites, kitchens and utility rooms. The waterproof rating is for the system, not a surface treatment that wears off.
How long does cork flooring last in a home?
Classic Cork and Cork Styles carry a 25-year structural warranty. Real-world lifespan in a residential setting is typically 30+ years with normal maintenance. The surface can be lightly refinished if needed.
Is cork good for homes with kids and dogs?
Yes. Cork’s natural give absorbs drops, the surface is warmer than tile or wood, the acoustic damping is gentler on energetic households, and waterproof construction means accidents don’t damage the floor.
Can cork work alongside engineered oak in the same home?
Yes, and it’s often the right specifier answer. Cork in kitchen/bathroom/utility, engineered oak in living rooms and bedrooms, with transition details specified at quote stage. Both supplied by The Floor Gallery; one specifier conversation.
How does cork look in a high-end home?
Visually distinctive but quiet, cork reads as a warm, natural material with a fine texture. The Original Shell finish in Cork Styles is the textural design-statement option; Classic Cork in plank is the cleaner specifier-grade look.
