Vermont Engineered Wood, American Walnut — designed by Studio KKD
Studio KKD specified Vermont Engineered Wood in American Walnut at 35 Grosvenor Street, a Mayfair workplace interior in central London. The wide-plank format reads continuously across the floor; the deeper-warm walnut tone supports the building's brand identity without overpowering the rest of the interior palette.
Engineered construction was the right answer for this building's combination of underfloor heating and the natural humidity swings of a busy commercial workplace. Vermont's hybrid construction — a real wood top layer over a structural wood powder composite layer on a high-density HDF core (~930 kg/m³) with moisture-resistant edge impregnation — counters the humidity-driven expansion forces from the top layer, holding the floor's tolerances across the 30–60% RH range typical of UK commercial buildings. The combination delivers Brinell indent resistance ≥100 N/mm² for oak and an antibacterial-tested surface (ISO 22196), without the cupping a solid walnut floor would show in the same conditions. PEFC certified, Blue Angel eco-labelled, German-manufactured, ~11mm total thickness, click installation.
