Flooring for BREEAM and LEED Projects

Biophilic cork flooring in a sustainable commercial interior with planting and natural light

Flooring for BREEAM and LEED projects

On a BREEAM or LEED scheme, a floor finish is only as useful as the evidence behind it. Every range we supply comes with documented environmental and health credentials, responsible-sourcing certification, environmental product declarations, and low-emission test data, that can contribute to recognised credits. Here is how our cork and wood floors support each rating, and what documentation we can provide for your assessor.

How our floors support BREEAM and LEED

The same underlying credentials count towards both schemes: chain-of-custody certification for responsible sourcing, EPDs for life-cycle transparency, and low formaldehyde and VOC emissions for indoor air quality. Cork adds a carbon-negative life-cycle balance. The exact credits and points depend on your project and assessor, so treat the sections below as a guide and confirm targets with your BREEAM or LEED team.

BREEAM: responsible sourcing, health and life cycle

  • Mat 03, Responsible sourcing: FSC and PEFC chain-of-custody certification across the timber ranges.
  • Hea 02, Indoor air quality: formaldehyde Class E1 across the board, plus low/zero-VOC credentials (French A+, Eco-Institut M1) on the resilient and engineered ranges.
  • Mat 01, Life-cycle impacts: an EPD to EN 15804 for cork, with a carbon-negative life-cycle balance.

LEED v4: EPDs, sourcing and low-emitting materials

  • Building Product Disclosure and Optimization, EPD: the cork EPD to EN 15804.
  • Sourcing of Raw Materials: FSC/PEFC chain of custody and bio-based content.
  • Low-Emitting Materials: VOC and formaldehyde credentials including French A+ and Eco-Institut M1.

Documentation for your assessment

We can supply the cork EPD, FSC and PEFC chain-of-custody certificates, formaldehyde and VOC test reports, and eco-label documentation (Blue Angel, Eco-Institut) for the specified range. Send us the ranges you are considering and your target credits, and we will put together a documentation pack.

BREEAM & LEED, FAQ

Common questions on sustainability credits.

Do your floors contribute to BREEAM credits?

Yes. FSC and PEFC chain-of-custody documentation supports responsible sourcing under Mat 03; low formaldehyde (E1) and low-VOC credentials support indoor air quality under Hea 02; and the cork range carries an EPD to EN 15804 with a carbon-negative life-cycle balance that supports Mat 01. The credits available depend on the scheme, so confirm targets with your BREEAM assessor and we will supply the evidence.

Do your floors contribute to LEED credits?

Yes. Under LEED v4 our floors can support Building Product Disclosure and Optimization (the cork EPD), Sourcing of Raw Materials (FSC/PEFC chain of custody and bio-based content) and Low-Emitting Materials (VOC and formaldehyde credentials such as French A+ and Eco-Institut M1). Point contributions depend on the whole project, so check with your LEED consultant.

Do you provide EPDs and chain-of-custody certificates?

Yes. We can supply the cork EPD (EN 15804), FSC and PEFC chain-of-custody certificates, formaldehyde and VOC test reports and eco-label documentation such as Blue Angel and Eco-Institut for your assessment. Ask us for a documentation pack for the specified range.

Which range is best for a sustainability-led scheme?

Cork is the standout for carbon: it is harvested from bark without felling the tree, and the Classic Cork Collection is carbon-negative on a life-cycle basis and 100% PVC-free. For timber schemes, FSC-certified engineered oak and FSC/PEFC end-grain are strong choices, and the PVC-free Organic range suits low-emission, health-focused fit-outs.
