Indoor air quality has moved from a wellness talking point to a measurable specification target. WELL v2, BREEAM Hea 02 and a growing number of client net-zero-carbon-and-health briefs now ask the design team to evidence the chemical emissions of every interior finish, and flooring, by surface area, is one of the largest. The Organic Collection is built for that conversation: a bio-based floor that is genuinely zero-VOC, with the third-party certification to prove it.
Why flooring drives indoor air quality
Floor finishes, adhesives and their coatings can off-gas volatile organic compounds (VOCs) for weeks or months after installation. In sealed, mechanically ventilated buildings, schools, healthcare, offices, those emissions accumulate in the air occupants breathe. Specifying a low-emission floor is one of the most effective single moves a design team can make on IAQ.
What makes the Organic Collection zero-VOC
The Organic Collection is based on ecuran, a composite of renewable castor and canola oils with mineral chalk. Crucially, it contains no chlorine, no plasticisers and no solvents, the ingredients that drive emissions in conventional resilient floors. The result is a floor that is zero-VOC, emission-free and odourless from day one, with no special coating or sealer required over its life.
The certifications specifiers can cite
Claims need evidence. The Organic Collection carries GREENGUARD Gold (UL certification for low chemical emissions, the stricter tier used for schools and healthcare) and the Blue Angel eco-label, alongside a third-party EPD to EN 15804+A2 and Cradle to Cradle Silver certification. Together these cover both emissions and material health, the two questions a WELL or BREEAM assessor will ask.
How it maps to WELL and BREEAM
For WELL, low-emitting materials and VOC restrictions sit under the Materials and Air concepts; GREENGUARD Gold is a recognised compliance route. For BREEAM, the floor contributes to Hea 02 (indoor air quality) and the Mat credits through its EPD and responsible-sourcing evidence. Because the documentation is already in place, it shortens the evidence-gathering the design team would otherwise carry.
Where it matters most
Any space where occupants are sensitive or present for long periods: schools and nurseries, healthcare and care settings, offices and workplace fit-outs. The Organic Collection lets a specifier hit the design intent and the air-quality target with the same product, no trade-off between how the floor looks and what it releases into the room.
